The modernist architect Antoni Pascual constructed the Artesano 1919 building, commissioned by the Centro Artesano entity. From its construction the building was the nerve centre of culture and the arts in Prat de Llobregat, until in 1988, due to its serious structural deficiencies and since it did not meet the minimum safety conditions, it closed its doors to study if it might be refurbished.
The architecture studio in charge refurbishment contacted us directly to provide and fit the theatre floors, walls, stands and ceilings.
The main objective was to carry out refurbishment while harmoniously integrating the original modernist structure and contemporary elements to renew and revitalize the image of the theatre. For this, it was necessary to identify which elements made up the initial design that could be incorporated into the refurbishment project and which ones had to be modified and transformed.
Wood has been the main integrating element between the two styles present in the refurbishment of the project.
The choice was made to incorporate solid white oak flooring and varnished red oak walls for two main reasons. The first provides warmth to the theatre halls and other common areas and the second is due to the excellent acoustic and thermal properties that have always characterized solid wood.

Above all, the theatre should be a space for intergenerational cultural encounters and elements such as the stage and the oak walls provided by WOODIFY encourage conversation and warmth.
